SOCRATES SCULPTURE PARK COMPETITION

Building upon the character and history of a park that came into being as a collaborative effort between artists and the community, and the need for a space that will host a variety of programs; an extended classroom has been devised that aims to support and activate the landscape of the education corridor.  The unfinished, almost wild aesthetic of the current structures within Socrates and the transient nature of the exhibitions led us to create a semi-permanent structure that will give support to future installments and activities.  The Shored Pavilion improves upon the current infrastructure of the education corridor by using what is already present and reconfiguring those assemblies through methods of shoring.  The concept of shoring up what already exists is present in both the construction techniques of the pavilion and the larger goal of improving the park for the surrounding community.
